How to Apologize Like a Man

Name what you did. No “if.” No “but.” Make it right where you can. Then change.
Most men apologize to end a fight, not to repair a wound. That is why apologies fail.
Name the harm. “I raised my voice at you in front of the kids” — not “I’m sorry if you were upset.”
Own it. No excuses in the same breath. The explanation can come later, if they ask.
Ask what they need. Sometimes it is space. Sometimes it is a specific repair. Listen.
Change behavior. An apology without change is manipulation. One repeated failure teaches people not to trust your words.
Your son is learning whether men take responsibility or deflect. Apologize where he can see it done well.
