Raising Boys in a Soft Age

1 min read · The Man’s Encyclopedia

Your son does not need you to be his friend first. He needs you to be a man he can safely become.

Boys are not broken. They are underfed — for challenge, for approval from a man they respect, for a model of strength that includes restraint.

Culture will offer your son shortcuts: screens, irony, anger without purpose, comfort without character. None of them will make him whole.

Take him outside. Give him real tasks with real consequences. Let him fail in front of you and stand back up without a sermon. Pray with him — or work beside him until you can.

He will not remember your opinions about the news. He will remember whether you were worth becoming.
